The Winbond W971GG6SB-25 is a 1Gb DDR2 SDRAM organized as 8M x 8 banks x 16, rated DDR2-800 (400 MHz clock) at CL6 with a 1.8 V supply, in an 84-ball WBGA package. It is a mainstream x16 DDR2 device found in industrial HMI and controller boards, networking and telecom line cards, printers and consumer appliances that are still in production. Yes. Winbond has placed the W971GG6SB generation in end-of-life status. Boards that are qualified on this part and cannot requalify a different die are now sourcing remaining channel and spot-market stock, which is why it is on our shortage list.
Is the W971GG6JB-25 a drop-in replacement?
W971GG6JB is Winbond’s newer-generation 1Gb x16 DDR2 in the same 84-ball WBGA footprint and is the usual migration path, but it is a different die and should be checked against your memory controller timing before switching. We can quote either part.
